BCEC LEED Status Recognized as Massachusetts is named #1 LEED State
Boston– The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority (MCCA) is pleased to share that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has been recognized as the number one LEED state among the “2016 top 10” list determined by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). In 2016, the BCEC was certified as LEED Silver by the USGBC and due to the size and location of the facility the BCEC’s Silver certification was recognized as the Commonwealth’s most notable project among the 130 which earned LEED designations. This annual ranking highlights states that have made significant efforts in ensuring environmentally sustainable construction, modification, and operation of buildings.
While facilities of the BCEC’s size have traditionally been environmentally unfriendly in their construction and operations, the BCEC’s resource consumption, waste management, and operational efficiency produce a footprint deserving of a Silver rating in the LEED Existing Building v2009 rating system. Not only does this rating exemplify the MCCA’s commitment to the environment and sustainability, the rating highlights our role as an industry leader.
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an internationally adopted and universally recognized green building rating system that has set the standard for development and building operations. By setting high standards for buildings to achieve a level of certified recognition, the LEED system generates a sense of responsibility for developers and building operators across the world, as more and more communities look to the green standard.
